The box mod is the main element of your vape device. This article is rather intended for beginners, because those who have been vaping for a long time know what they need.
Varieties of box mods.
Mod models have many differences, but at the same time they are very similar to each other.
Among the differences:
2.Number of batteries
5.Battery connection method
6. Compatible with atomizers
First of all, you must understand that a box mod is a power source in your device.
In any case, the choice of boxing mod should be approached as responsibly as possible.
Its compatibility with atomizers will depend on the parameters of the box mod.
Despite the fact that most beginners first of all, when choosing a vape, pay attention to power, power is not a determining factor when choosing a particular model.
Despite the presence on the market of models with a power of 220 or even 300 W, such power cannot be applied.
The average working power on hookah draft is from 50 to 80 W, on cigarette draft you will need no more than 30 W.
But let's still understand the main features of choosing a device in terms of power.
In pursuit of more steam, of course you will need a powerful device. But 200 or even 220 watts will never be needed.
For example, at a power of 15-30 W, the amount of vapor will be comparable to a regular cigarette, or rather even a little more.
And at 150 watts, you can fill a small room with steam in a dozen puffs.
It is always worth choosing a device with a margin, because nothing can work constantly at maximum power.
Therefore, if you plan to vape a hookah atomizer with a power of up to 80 W, you should choose a mod with a power of 120-150 W.
If your choice is cigarette cravings, then 80 watts for everyday use will be more than enough.
Many experienced vapers will tell you that different boards deliver power differently. That is, conditional 50 W on mods from different manufacturers may seem like different power.
This is due to the speed of the board. Some boards are slower and do not deliver high power immediately, but gradually increase the value.
This is felt only at high powers.
Power and autonomy depend on the power supply.
Most models run on removable 18650 batteries, less common are 20700 or 21700 models. Models with a built-in battery have not proven to be reliable and durable in practice.
The 18650 format is still the most popular format for box mods. Due to its sufficient capacity, small size and good availability, the 18650 format remains the most versatile.
In addition to differences in battery format, box mods also differ in the number of batteries. There are models from 1 to 4 batteries.
The more batteries, the more power, autonomy, but also the larger the size and weight.
But despite the availability of models for 4 batteries, models for 1 and 2 batteries remain the most popular.
Models for 2 batteries are popular for both hookah and cigarette cravings. Boxing mods with a single battery are popular among lovers of cigarette cravings, they are poorly suited for hookah cravings.
Parallel or series
Batteries inside the box mod can be connected in 2 ways: in series or in parallel.
When connected in series, power increases, but not autonomy. With parallel, there is less power, but much more autonomy.
For example, 2 x 3000 mAh batteries in a daisy-chained box mod will give a capacity of 3000 mAh (as with a single battery), the possible output power can increase to 200 watts.
Parallel connection of 2 batteries will increase autonomy up to 6000 mAh, while the power will correspond to one battery mod -100-120 W.
Unfortunately, despite the large capacity, parallel-connected mods have not become popular, they are practically not found among models from well-known manufacturers.
The very first mods supported a resistance of just under one ohm. They were the forerunners of the vaping revolution.
Resistance is an important parameter for those who are looking for a powerful and efficient box mod.
For many RDA enthusiasts, as well as ultra high performance winders, resistance is critical.
It is believed that a good mod should support a resistance of 0.05 ohms. This meaning came from those who used mech mods, and the mod was used only to burn the spiral. With a resistance of 0.08 ohms (such a resistance is obtained after burning 0.05 ohms), the mech mod works most efficiently, both in terms of autonomy and in terms of power output. But we still choose box mod with you.
The value of 0.05 ohm in 2020 is still only formal and, in fact, is not used in practice.
For 95% of vapers, resistance support from 0.1 ohm will be enough.
Usually, when choosing a box mod, you choose it for a specific atomizer or vice versa. In general, when choosing, it is worth considering compatibility with atomizers.
All modern models come with the same -510 connector.
In fact, it is standard and they do not differ much from device to device.
But everything is for standardization in this aspect, sometimes I can meet box mods in which the positive pin is either too deep. But this is too rare to really worry about it.
The second aspect of compatibility is the diameter of the landing pad and the atomizer.
The most common atomizer models have a diameter of 24-25mm, most modern mods will support this diameter without gaps.
But still, there are still box mods on the market that support a maximum diameter of 23 mm.
Board and brand
Around some boards and brands, the glory of reliability has appeared, around others, on the contrary.
In general, there are such well-known brands on the market:
1. Vaporesso - famous for its power and performance
2. Voopoo are also reliable, accurate boards with great performance
3. Eleaf, Wismec, Joyetech - mid-range with a low price, there may be problems with liquid ingress. (which is likely with any boards)
4. Geekvape - good boards with a premium feel, but had problems with reliability and stability on the chips of the first version of AS CHIP. In the version of the AS2 chip, they became one of the best.
5.DNA - previously considered the standard, but with the advent of new Vaporesso and Voopoo boards, they turned out to be overestimated
6. Vandy Vape - the boards are high quality, reliable and stable, but so far they are quite new and rare on the market.
The remaining brands of box mods are little known and too little popular to talk about their reliability or, on the contrary, insufficient quality.
Choosing a box mod from another brand in 2020 is a pig in a poke.
When choosing a box mod, the screen plays only an aesthetic role.
From the point of view of the output information, all box mods are the same.
The screen usually displays:
1.Current power in watts
3.Number of puffs
5.When pressed: puff time and applied power or voltage
Optionally, from model to model, the time or screen saver can also be displayed on the screen.
Most models on the box mod market are equipped with monochrome OLED screens. This is usually sufficient for everyday use.
But in some models, the top segment, there are also color screens. Such models do not significantly lose autonomy (up to 5%), but at the same time they have a more friendly user interface.
1.Wattage is important when choosing a mod, but 150W and 220W models will work equally well
2. For cigarette traction, a model up to 30W is enough, for hookah traction 150W
3.Popular power range 30-80W
4. Box mods with a built-in battery are less reliable
5. The most popular models for 1 or 2 batteries
6. For hookah traction, you need a device with at least 2 batteries
7. Serial connection of batteries adds power, but does not add autonomy.
8. Parallel connection of batteries is autonomous, but not found in modern devices
9. For compatibility with modern devices, you must choose a box mod with a landing pad of 24 mm
10. The best box mod brands are: Vaporesso, Voopoo, Geekvape, Vandy Vape.
11. The screen is more of an aesthetic function and does not greatly affect the choice
